19th December 1965

Dear Amiya,

Your letter of 13th December was received here and it was read out to Beloved Baba. Baba wants you not to worry about Jimmy1 at all. He will get a push on the evolutionary path.

Baba is pleased with you and gives you His love, and Baba gives His love to Gauri, to Matajee, and to Mehernandini His love-filled kiss.

Jai Baba

Affectionately yours,

Bhau

1. "Let me tell you, Jimmy was my fox terrier dog, and he lived for almost 15 years with us, and when he died we felt so unhappy, and we all wept, and I wrote a letter to Baba for him. Jimmy was very mischievous and always tried to pick fights with other dogs. He loved terrifying people, barking at them. He would go up the stairs, and from the staircase he would look up the roads, and bark at anyone who would try to enter the home.

"We had given an express instruction that he was free to go to any room in the house, but not in the kitchen. One day he was chasing a mouse and the mouse went into the kitchen. He forgot the instruction, chased the mouse into the kitchen, and killed it. I heard the fuss and came running. I will never forget the look he gave me. He knew he wasn't supposed to be in there, so he hung his head and left.

"His end was quite bad. He had rheumatism and couldn't move. We went out for dinner, and our hosts insisted we stay the night. We forgot about Jimmy. It was bitter cold, December. We came home the next day, and the thought came to us that we had forgotten him. We found him on the roof of the house, where he had gone to search for us. But his rheumatism was so bad that he couldn't get down, and he had almost frozen to death. And, after a last look from him, he dropped his body."
