Pratima

Amiya explains: "Pratima is the wife of Rabindra Nath Bhattacharjee (one of my oldest friends, whom I refer to as RNB) and also my niece. Gauri (my wife) and Pratima had not been very friendly, and Baba being omniscient, we didn't have to tell Him, but He of His own accord sent this message and later on we came to know that they were really not very friendly."

Editor's note: to make it more complicated there is another Gauri. This Gauri is the sister of RNB, and as it turns out, she is also unfriendly towards Pratima.

Amiya was asked about what happened between these ladies. He commented, "Well, the hot war cooled down, and the cold war continued for some time, and what happened was that my wife Gauri didn't have much contact with Gauri the sister of RNB. Sister Gauri of RNB was married and she moved to another state and they hardly ever met afterwards. As far as Pratima is concerned, they do not exactly have the same ill feeling now, and they are on a sociable disposition -- civil to each other -- and they are not at loggerheads any more. On the other hand, it isn't exactly what Baba wanted, perhaps. That sort of thing hasn't come through. Ego is so difficult to control."

Problems between the two Gauris and Pratima come up in this letter, this letter, this letter and this letter. It seems Baba was working on some broader question here.
